Gecko,

I'm looking to start my career in tactical retail security services. I am wondering if it is better to take a solo job at a small location like a convenience store or to be an assistant at a slightly larger location like a strip mall or supermarket. Can you outline the pros and cons of each?

Also, what type of education should a budding tactical retail security service provider obtain?

Thanks

KOAm, both of your options are good options. It is just a matter of picking which option you will opt for.

(note that opt for is not the same as OPFOR)

Solo operations will require you to hone the greatest variety of skills all by yourself because you will be oeprating by yourself. Thus, only the skills you have yourself will be available. You won't have any equipment except for your equipment. And you wont have any help except for the help you give yourself.

Working on a team requires teamwork. There are social and personalty issues that can interfre with good tactical operations. Being on a team means that when one guy is having sex problems with his wife, everyone on teh team is having sex problems with his wife. Understand? Your team is one big team of all of you.

As for education, I personally believe that formal education is completely overated. Learn by doing, not by learning.

Out here.

Gecko,

Thanks for taking the time to counsel me in the ways of tactical retail security.

When I talk about education, I don't mean colleges and universities. Those are for thinkers. I consider myself a doer, which is why I chose this challenging profession.

I was looking for classes taught by experienced tactical retail security specialists who might help me perfect my tactics. After all, working the overnight at a convenience store can get challenging when you have one customer trying to cash a lottery ticket and another abusing the Icee machine when it's not frozen enough for his alcohol addled taste.

Thank you for your guidance.

koam obviously I don't teach. I am to busy with my own team and our non stop training schdule.

Look to Front Sight Academy or Tactical Response. There both perfect for some one getting into retail security.
